About the Norwegian language
Norwegian is Norway’s official language, and it is also spoken in parts of Denmark and Sweden. It belongs to the North Germanic family tree, and is closely related to Icelandic and Faroese.
As established by law, the two official forms of written Norwegian are Bokmål and Nynorsk.
Interestingly, Norwegian is among the few European tonal languages, which is a language where the tone in a syllable distinguishes the lexical or grammatical meaning of two otherwise identical words.
Another peculiarity is that there is a great similarity between many Norwegian and English words – Hallo (Hello), Velkommen (Welcome) and Takk (Thank you) are some examples. However, this does not mean that English and Norwegian are mutually understandable.
The Norwegian way
Even though most Norwegians speak perfect English, they still prefer to communicate in their own language, and having the information they seek in their own language is more important than a low price.
Norway is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, thanks in part to its crude oil and natural gas exports. Unemployment rates are low, and incomes are evenly distributed, making every person a potential customer.
We can help you speak and connect with your audience in Norwegian thanks to our experience providing translation services in the Nordic languages. Get in touch to explore how we can help you.
